The hair is removed below the surface of the skin hence it will take longer for the hair to grow back; permanently reducing quantity of hair over prolonged period of repeats. Waxing is the most effective method of removing unwanted hair in both large and small areas. Hair can be removed with a minimum amount of discomfort.Hard waxes melt just above body temperature so they can be easily spread thinly over the skin. As they harden they trap the hair in the wax so it is removed by the roots when the wax is ripped off.
Hot waxes are applied to the skin with either a roll-on appliance or a spatula and is removed with strips. The hair sticks to the wax and is then removed with the quick pull back action.
Pregnant woman should get doctor’s permission before waxing. Being pregnant will leave you more sensitive during and after your wax.
Does it hurt?
Everyone have different types of hair, skin and pain threshold. You should expect to experience some discomfort, to many women that momentary discomfort is so worth it. You will get smooth skin, and no more razor burn and posts shave itching. However, previous shaving history, menstrual cycle, medication and fatigues can also influence your sensitivity level. It has been said that taking Tylenol/Advil/Ibuprofen about 20-30 minutes before the process will ease the pain, but this also depends on each person. The classic beauty rule “no pain, no gain” has officially moved down south to the nether –regions of the body, compliments of Brazilian waxing.
Brazilian Waxing phenomenon is 3,000 to 5,000 years old! It dates back to the ancient Egyptian times, think pyramid construction, pharaohs and mummies. The ancient ‘wax’ was believed to be an all-natural sugar-based paste, which was mixed with lemon for its anti-bacterial properties.
The term “Brazilian” came about from the itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny bikinis worn on Brazilian beaches.
Brazilian waxing refers to hair removal around the pubic region (including the labia and bottom). To some people it means removing all the hair from the bikini area, and to others it means removing everything but a strip in the front. You should do whatever makes you comfortable, whether it’s a bare look, a more natural look, or something in between.
What to expect of a Brazilian Bikini Wax
If you have a morning appointment we recommend showering beforehand. Please arrive clean for your appointment. There are personal wipes available if required. Women should avoid waxing during the three days prior to and the first three days of their period; the skin is more sensitive at this time. We can still perform the waxing if you are on your period, as long that you wear a tampon and not a pad. The ideal length of hair to wax is approx 1cm. If you shaved the bikini area it is necessary to wait between 1 1/2-2 weeks before coming to get waxed, otherwise it will be to short and we won’t be able to wax you. If your hair is much longer our waxing specialists can trim if it’s required. Expect a little irritation, especially around where the skin is more sensitive (we recommend Neosporin or A+D to relieve the irritation). If you get waxed regularly, your skin will become accustomed and you should not have the irritation. You should avoid making a wax appointment if you have sunburn, rashes, wounds, or open skin. Also please avoid putting any lotions or oils on the skin the day of the waxing appointment because the wax will not settle on your skin making it difficult for the aestheticism to pull out the hair. To better protect you and to make you more comfortable we recommend you to keep you underwear on, you may use a old and comfortable pair of cotton panties, no boy short (* this may very depending on the esthetician).
After a client’s first waxing, the results can last 3 to 5 weeks depending on the individual’s hair re-growth rate. In most cases, hair growth is minimal during the first week or two and noticeably increases in the third and fourth week. Heat stimulates hair growth, therefore hair grows quicker in the summer than in the winter. With regular waxing the length of time between treatments will increase. Continued waxing results in sparse hair re-growth.What are the possible side effects of waxing and how can they be minimized?
Although we can not predict or guarantee who may react, most clients do not experience reactions beyond redness and minor irritation. Hair may break at the root during waxing, causing some hairs to grow out faster. Please follow these guidelines to minimize irritation and possible break outs.
•Avoid the sun immediately after waxing and please wear sun screen; recently waxed areas are prone to hyper pigmentation (permanent darkening of the skin) if exposed to the sun.
•Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours after waxing.
•Avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and other heated sources for at least 48 hours.
•Do not use exfoliating products, lotions, or oils at least 24 hours after waxing as they might further irritate your skin and clog pores
•Avoid tight clothing after waxing, especially in the waxed areas. Tight clothing may result in irritation and ingrown hairs
•Regular exfoliation may be helpful to remove dead skin so your hairs can get out above the surface of the pores and not become ingrown (we recommend 3-4 times a week)
•Routine waxing helps the skin get accustomed to the procedure and may minimize irritation.
•Do not shave or wax for at least 3 – 4 weeks prior to your treatment. A ¼ inch hair growth is required for bikini, leg, and underarm waxing.
•For Brazilian and bikini waxes, please trim any long hair to minimize discomfort.
•Female clients may have heightened sensitivity during the week prior to or during menstruation.
•Limit your caffeine intake the day of your waxing service. Caffeine stimulates the nervous system and increases sensitivity.
Before your wax, please do not…
•Use Retin-A/Renova for at least 30 days.
•Use Accutane for at least one year.
•Use peels (glycolic, AHA, etcetera) or dermabrasion on the area for at least 24 hours.
•Consume excessive amounts of alcohol or sunbathe for at least 48 hours.
•Use self-tanners, exfoliants or moisturizers the day of the service – they can cause irritations to the sensitive hair follicles that are open after waxing.
•Minimize skin irritation by applying aloe vera or hydrocortisone cream to the treated area.
•You may wash the waxed area, but refrain from using harsh cleansers or creams for 24 – 48 hours.
•Stay away from hot tubs, hot showers, hot baths, sunbathing and tanning for at least 24 – 48 hours.
After Your Wax…
•Prevent ingrown hairs by avoiding exfoliation for 2 – 3 days and then exfoliating the area regularly.
•Avoid shaving in between waxing treatments.
